Kara's Party Ideas Post

Angela's Posts, FeaturedCole ImperiComment

The past few weeks have been full of fantastic craziness and we are loving every minute of it! We were so excited to launch our DIY Candy Buffet eBook  full of tips and tricks to set up your own candy display. A few days after the release of our eBook we found out that we were featured on Kara's Party Ideas. If you are a party planning fanatic like I am then you are probably familiar with the national planning website...so to be featured on it was a huge honor to me! Kara's Party Ideas is a wonderful resource to help you plan and get ideas for just about any themed party you may have coming up. The party they featured was my son's first birthday party which was a Mickey Mouse theme! Thank you again Kara's Party Ideas for including Dulce Designs on your site. Here is a little snippet of the write up they did!

Mickey Mouse Party Details:

This is what Angela said about plannign/styling the party- “My son’s greatest love besides goldfish crackers and our two beagles is Mickey Mouse. So when it came time for his first birthday party I knew exactly what theme we were going to go with. Besides being a mommy to Nolan, I am the owner of a candy/dessert buffet company (Dulce Designs) so I love a good theme to decorate and design around, especially when it comes to throwing parties for my loved ones. We were able to come up with some really great ideas for his birthday party such as a photo booth, festive food, themed party hats, Mickey bowling and a custom dessert table. The birthday party was held at an indoor kids play cafe called Ozo cafe. This was the perfect location because it had so much for the little one’s to play with while the adults could relax a bit. We had the very talented Michelle with NIxon photography there to capture every detail for us. It was a wonderful birthday party and thanks to Nixon photography we will have memories that will last a lifetime”

Local Cincinnati Craft Brews

Featured, TestimonialsCole ImperiComment

When I think of March I think of St. Patrick's Day, warmer weather and basketball...all of which are better enjoyed with an ice cold beer. Therefore, when I think of March I also think of beer! There is no better person to talk beer with than my husband, Adam...he has transformed me from a bud light only girl to a real craft beer lover!

Here is what he has to say about beer, mainly local Cincinnati beer:

Cincinnati local beer

Being Mr. Dulce Designs has always had its perks.  Our basement is a candy amusement park with color-coded chocolates, a zoo-like assortment of gummy animals, and spools of ribbon as far as the eye can see.  My wife has a real passion in working with brides and event planners and providing a truly fun resort from their otherwise hectic events.  When she asked me what I could offer in lines of a passionate guest blog, my ideas rattled off like an immature Instagram recount of the bachelor party to one of her weddings.  Beers, bourbon, and baseball.

Over the past 5 years, I’ve collected over 30 bottles of bourbon.  Through travel and my previous occupation, I’ve counted nearly 600 baseball games I have attended.  But my true passion is beer.  It’s really one of the most universal conversation starters and maintainers we have in this world.  Beer isn’t just a beverage; it’s a memory as consistent as any “first”.  People ask me “what’s the best beer you’ve ever had,” and I never really have a solid answer.  The story always goes to Bell’s Hopslam because I remember drinking two (and it feeling like 10) the first Opening Day Reds game I attended with my dad.  Or Founder’s Centennial because it was the first beer I bought to impress a girl at a “Thirsty Thursday” in college.  I drank a Stone Cali-Belgique the day my son was born.  My wedding night was celebrated with Abita Pecan Harvest.

Its this glamorization of memories that’s softened my stance as a beer supremacists over the past few years.  For years I turned my nose on the Bud Light crowd for their notion that quantity and costs seemingly outweighed the importance of beer taste.  Then I remember the first time I mowed the lawn of a house I owned.  It must have been 120 degrees outside in your typical swampy Cincinnati summer.  The only drink cold in our fridge was a can of Coors Light that had been shuffling around our crisper in the fridge.  But sitting on MY back porch, looking at MY perfectly lined green carpet, that swill from Golden, Colorado rivaled anything the geniuses from Kalamazoo or San Diego could ever brew.

Still, if you’re willing to take a step away from your local gas station beer selection, Cincinnati is a bustling brew city.  Over the past 18 months new breweries have made good beer more accessible and less costly in the I-275 circle.  Take Rhinegiest, the old lamp factory with west-coast brewers who make simple and consistent beers.  Or Madtree and the amazing creativity that a few home-brewers have used to become Ohio’s first canned beer.  Christian Moerlein, Rivertown, Mt. Carmel, Bad Tom, Cellar Dweller, Triple Digit, and Blank Slate are just a few of the other breweries that have popped up in town at local bars and their own tap rooms.

So while “good beer” is still a subjective term that depends on your current attitude situation, I’ve compiled my top 10 local beers with a brief description.  Hopefully you can find one of the below to put the exclamation point in one of your own memories.

·         Blank Slate – Fork in the Road : An amber IPA that hits malty and hoppy.  I’m fascinated with how smooth it starts and how crisp it cuts off its flavor

·         Rhinegiest – Truth IPA:  The best IPA in the city is available in cans

·         Madtree – Happy Amber: Another amber IPA available in cans

·         Madtree – Sprye: a rye IPA that finishes long after an initial IPA pine

·         Madtree -  Curse of Simcoe:  I’m heavy on Madtree eh?  This is seasonal but feature simcoe hops which probably is my favorite type consistently

·         West 6th - Lemongrass Wheat:  Local can be Lexington right?  For the lighter crowd, this would be fantastic at GABP during a meaningless June Sunday afternoon

·         Christian Moerlein -  Emanicpator :  won the silver medal among bock style beers in the US this year

·         Triple Digit - Chickow : brown, syrupy, warmth on a chilly day

·         Rhinegiest – Cougar:  A great gateway beer for those loyal to Budweiser or pretentious enough to think Stella Artois is a good beer

·         Madtree – Pumpcan:  I’m in the 3% of Americans that hate pumpkin pie.  Refuse to drink pumpkin spice lattes (although this also could be because I’M A MAN).  But this is amazing.

Happy Valentine's Day to you all...whether you are a momma, wife, pet-owner, friend or daughter you have love in your life and today is the day to share it with everyone! Valentine's Day is so much more fun now that we have our son and Pinterest. Thanks to Pinterest I have been able to find all sorts of fun DIY crafts and gift ideas and if you have been following my Facebook posts then you have shared in my finds as well. My husband and I are not big on going out to celebrate...instead we love to get cozy, drink a cocktail, eat Indian food and watch our latest show obsession on Netflix (this month we are into House of Cards!). I am going to do a quick Valentine's Day roundup from all of my fabulous finds I have found on Pinterest and I am even including my VERY OWN first Polyvore (which is an amazing design website, check it out) outfit that I created and will be wearing myself on this special day of love!

I first wanted to share DIY gift ideas...from treat ideas for your kids to make their classmates or a simple idea for you to gift your spouse. I picked my favorites to share with you! I especially love the beer gift idea...which is perfect for my local beer loving husband!

A New and Refreshed Dulce

The new Dulce Designs is finally here and I am so excited to share all the new things we have to offer. It’s been 5 years since our initial launch and we’re feeling that it may be time to spruce up. Over the last year I kept getting the same requests…"can you give me tips and tricks so I can do my candy/dessert buffet myself?” I’ve often had brides take photos of my displays at bridal shows so they can imitate it for their own upcoming event. All of that combined with the rise of Pinterest, made me realize we are in an era of DIY clients. The new Dulce Designs is perfect for those wishing to do just that. I will give you EVERYTHING you need in order for you to “do it yourself” on the day of your event!

A huge benefit of the new Dulce Designs is a lowering of prices for our brides and clients.  Since we at Dulce are not doing the actual design, set-up, and take-down of the event, we are able to offer you prices that are much more affordable.  Another exciting benefit to our new mission is you are able to take create your own display; either seen via Pinterest or maybe something you created yourself.  This allows you to take full ownership of your own design, which is what DIY is all about.

You are not on your own completely though with the new Dulce, I will give you my best tips and tricks that I have learned over the years as well as candy/popcorn suggestions. Most of our packages already include ribbon and custom labels to match your event perfectly. For local clients we rent out our jars, scoops and other supplies at a price that is hard to beat!

Maybe you’re not into “do it yourself" (which is totally fine…it is not for everyone). Perhaps you already have so much on your plate with other party details and just want someone else to take this on. Well, we can do that for you! For our local brides not only are we able to rent our supplies but for one set price we can also do all the designing, set-up/take-down, delivery all while working closely with your other vendors so you do not have to do anything but just enjoy!

Lastly, something brand new we are offering to our clients is our Sweet Soiree package. This is a party planning package that gets the ball rolling and allows you to ultimately “do it yourself” with just a little bit of help from Dulce. We will have a phone consult where we will discuss a theme for your event and other details and from there Dulce Designs will create an inspiration board including but not limited to: food/drink suggestions, dessert ideas, party favors, games and basic décor. Included with the inspiration board we will even give you websites and stores where you can purchase some of the items you will need along with some tips and tricks to make the party run smoothly.

Along with all of these fantastic things that are sure to sweeten your next event…I will also be providing other DIY ideas on our blog that are outside of just party planning and dessert buffets. My family recently moved into a brand new house and we are busy decorating and making it into a home. On top of all that, we have a very active 20 month old whom I love to create fun activities for us to do together.

Dulce Designs started as a wedding favor which is often a new beginning to the next chapters of our lives.  My goal is to share whatever tips, tricks, and hobbies I pick up as the story continues.  Please explore around the new site and feel free to contact me if you’re not quite sure what would be your best fit.  Our mission is to make your event as enjoyable and carefree as possible.  After all…Life is Sweet.

Dulce Designs Candy Buffet

We were so excited to design a Tiffany and Co. inspired candy/dessert buffet for a baby shower this past month. Our client was so fun to work with and really wanted to go all out with the theme, which of course I love! The colors for the event were Tiffany blue, white and silver. The candies that we decided on to match these colors were: mini cotton candy bags, gummy bears, gumballs, salt water taffy, lollipops, rock candy, white chocolate covered pretzels, chocolate balls, Hershey kisses and airheads. We decided to add Tiffany colored macaroons  courtesy of Sweet Petit Desserts, we had yummy custom cookies made from our in house cookie designer that were in the shape of onesies and baby carriages, fabulous cake pops were provided from Cupcake Crazy in the flavors of Oreo, vanilla and white chocolate cherry almond!  The labels were designed by Meghan with Design the Date and were in the shape of ADORABLE onesies,

The display was a total hit at the event and we were more than pleased with the outcome!

Fabulous Featured Cincinnati Candy Buffet by Bellenza!

Angela's Posts, Candy Spotlight, FeaturedCole ImperiComment

We are beyond thrilled to be featured on Bellenza's wedding website as a fabulous feature. The candy buffet shown is an all yellow and navy candy buffet we did last May. This is one of my favorite displays and I am so proud to share it with everyone. Thank you to the wonderful staff at Bellenza for showcasing our display in such a beautiful way!! Below are a few pieces of the article written, for the whole article please click on the below photos. Thank you!

This candy buffet was for Jessica and Brian Lee’s wedding, held on May 12, 2012 at Triple Crown Country Club in Union, Ky. We featured all yellow candies with navy labels to match their wedding colors and décor. The groom was a huge fan of Krispy Kreme doughnuts so we also made a groom’s cake for him with just the doughnuts he loves! Both the candy buffet and doughnut cake were a huge hit and the photographer did an amazing job capturing photos. This was one of my favorite and most memorable candy buffet designs I have created, as yellow is my personal favorite color as well as being 41 weeks pregnant on the day of the event!

I love this photo of the bride’s first reaction (see palette below) to seeing the dessert table we created!

Dulce Designs is helping to sponsor a wonderful team in the March of Dimes, March for Babies...the Foulk fighters!

The March of Dimes really hits home for the Foulk’s, after being on strict bed rest and hospitalized for nearly 3 months Danielle gave birth to two miracles who today are beautiful  and very healthy almost 1 year olds. The Foulk twins are an inspiration to the team and each donation made helps to fund the March of Dimes research which could save a baby’s life just like these two blessings.

Here is a bit more information directly from the website for March of Dimes:

When you walk in March for Babies, you give hope to the more than half a million babies born too soon each year. The money you raise supports programs in your community that help moms have healthy, full-term pregnancies. And it funds research to find answers to the problems that threaten our babies. We've been walking since 1970 and have raised an incredible $2 billion to benefit all babies.

Please consider donating to this wonderful cause and support the Foulk Fighters team on their mission to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality. National Popcorn Day

Events, Featured, Trends, WeddingsCole ImperiComment
Dulce Designs

is this Saturday January 19th, who knew this day existed?! I had no clue and it just so happens we have booked our very first ALL popcorn buffet on this very day...how fun is that?! I found this below information courtesy of, punchbowl.com. popcorn bar

National Popcorn Day

It’s National Popcorn Day! Americans eat about 16 billion quarts of popcorn each year (about 51 quarts per person), which makes it one of the most popular snacks in the country. It is also one of the oldest.

Popcorn has been around for centuries. It is one of six main varieties of corn. (The others are pod, sweet, flour, dent, and flint.) Popcorn originated in Mexico, but eventually made its way north. In 1948, archaeologists in the state of New Mexico discovered ancient popcorn ears that were at least 5,600 years old! The Native Americans (in both North and South America) popped their corn by throwing it on hot stones over a fire.

Today, we rely heavily on microwaveable popcorn, which was introduced in the 1980s. To celebrate National Popcorn Day, make your favorite kind of popcorn and enjoy it while watching a movie with your friends!

We are so excited to be doing a popcorn buffet for such a beautiful couple this weekend. They chose 8 popcorn flavors which include: Salt and Vinegar, Cheddar, Buffalo Ranch, Caramel, Peanut Butter, Butter, Chocolate and Banana Split. I cannot wait to post more photos after the event. We would love to help you with a popcorn buffet for your next event, contact us today for more information!

Emerald Green

Dulce Designs

They recently just announced the Pantone color of the year for 2013 and it is emerald green! Color of the year

To be honest I am not usually a green person but I love this rich, deep shade of green. One of my favorite colored candy buffets to do is one with green candy...it just photographs so well and there are great flavor options. Emeralds occur in hues ranging from yellow-green to blue-green, with the primary hue necessarily being green. Yellow and blue are the normal secondary hues found in emeralds. That could be why  such a wonderful color combo for a candy/dessert buffet is green and blue. A couple of seasons ago we did this exact combo and the results were beautiful and yummy!!

This whole month we are dedicating our blog, Facebook posts and twitter to DIY projects for the holiday season! These projects will be all holiday or gift related  and will come in the form of recipes, home decor, party printables etc... I have found so many great things to share with you all that could potentially cut your buying and spending in half for the holiday season, how great is that?!

These are seriously some great ideas and almost all of them are super easy to do. I will also be trying some of them along with you all and I cannot wait to start crafting and try some of these fabulous DIY tips.

So to start the month off, I found this super cute FREE printable (courtesy of akadesign.ca) so all you have to do is print from your home computer and add a frame. This would go great as additional holiday decor for your house, as a hostess gift or a gift for a friend or that hard to buy family member. I printed this off at home and am very impressed with the quality of it. It has that chalkboard vintage look that is so popular right now!

Just click on the image to be taken to the printable once there click on the image to get to the PDF, then right click to save and then print on a piece of quality linen white paper (I used just regular computer paper that I already had and it turned out perfectly). It should be about 8×10, if you trim the edges.

Make sure to check our Facebook page and twitter for more daily DIY projects!

Coconut-Chocolate Pecan Pie

Angela's Posts, Featured, Recipes, Testimonials, UncategorizedCole ImperiComment

So every year for Thanksgiving I am responsible for the desserts, big surprise there!! The funny thing is I am not a baker unless you count things from a box or no bake pudding pies. So I usually always order the desserts from a great local bakery, this year we had yummy bite sized desserts from Sweet Petite Desserts and they were nothing short of amazing. In addition to these desserts I found a recipe in my Family circle magazine that I just had to try and it looked easy enough for me not to mess up.  It was for coconut-chocolate pecan pie, which are all of my dad's and husband's favorite ingredients. This was my very first pie, I do not count the pudding pies because there is no baking involved...but they are equally as awesome, so much so that I'll have to do another whole blog post on just those!! Anyway, the pie turned out PERFECT and I was so proud of myself...although I do feel bad for my family because they will be getting this for every holiday during the next year. Here is the recipe that I am sure you all will love, courtesy of familycircle.com!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup sweetened flake coconut, plus more for garnish (optional)
  • 1 refrigerated pie crust (from a 15.5-oz pkg)
  • 1 cup light corn syrup
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups pecan halves
  • 1/2 cup mini chocolate chips
  • Whipped cream (optional)

Directions

1. Heat oven to 350 degrees. Spread coconut onto a baking sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes until lightly toasted. Cool.

2. Meanwhile, coat a 9-inch deep-dish pie plate with nonstick cooking spray. Roll pie crust slightly and fit into prepared dish, fluting edge.

3. In a bowl, whisk corn syrup, sugar, eggs and vanilla. Stir in pecans. Spread coconut into pie crust; top with chocolate chips. Carefully pour pecan mixture into crust.

4. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour, covering crust with foil if browning too quickly. Cool at least 2 hours, then refrigerate until serving. Garnish with whipped cream and toasted coconut, if desired.

Cincinnati Candy Buffet

This past Wednesday was the fabulous Afterhours bridal show at Music Hall in Cincinnati. The turnout was great and I was so very pleased with our display. We met alot of great brides and were able to even meet some new vendors. The show was a total success. I decided to step away from our traditional candy buffet display this show and feature our s'mores buffets, which are perfect for fall/winter weddings or for a more rustic theme. My favorite part of the display besides the centerpiece was the backdrop. I think it really adds to the display and is a great way to incorporate your colors into the buffet.  The backdrop was such a hit at the bridal show that we have decided to start selling them separately or they can be added to a candy buffet package. In addition to the s'mores buffet we were lucky to have Taren with Sweet Petite Desserts contribute some of her yummy chocolate cupcakes and dipped pretzels. Meghan with Design the Date made all of our labels and paper goods. Lastly, we added our iced sugar cookies to the display in the shape of wedding gowns and diamond rings. We are now able to do cookies for any event and the detail on these is nothing short of amazing not to mention they taste wonderful.

We are so excited to be able to offer all of these great new items to our customers and their dessert displays. So contact us today to order your s'mores buffet, candy, cookie or backdrop for your next event!!
